SFWS offers an extensive range of free programs, services and resources in a safe environment, to connect with others and access direct community services, including: one-to-one crisis peer support, professional counselling, information and referrals, groups, educational opportunities, and a lending library during our drop-in hours or by appointment.
Support for SFWS comes from memberships, donations, community fundraising, local service clubs, foundations, Community Gaming Grants, and United Way of Lower Mainland.
SFWS Offers The Following:
- The STV - Trauma Counselling Program (TCP) is funded by the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General - Violence Against Women Program Unit.
We offer individual and group counselling for women who have experienced sexual assault, violence in intimate relationships, and/or childhood abuse. This program is made available at our 2 locations: South Surrey & Newton.
- The Legal Information and Advocacy Program is funded by the Law Foundation of BC , Law Foundation of Ontario and the Ministry of Housing and Social Development - Gaming Policy. Operating as South Fraser Legal Resource Centre, we provide support and legal information for women dealing with family law issues: divorce, separation, child custody & access, child support, spousal maintenance, peace bonds and restraining orders. We also provide pro bono (free) family law clinics and poverty law clinics.
- Our Volunteer Program provides training in women’s issues and basic communication skills. Our volunteers are indispensable in serving our community. Volunteers, provide peer support to clients, cook meals, sort clothes, answer phones - and numerous other tasks.
